I have had such an enjoyable time at the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival! Look what we brought home! A complete fleece, plus about a third of one that is so clean it looked like it didn't even need washed...but it did of course. These were Romney sheep and hubby & I have begun washing the fleece up with great enthusiasm. So thats why our family room looks like this!
And, a vendor was nice enough to explain to us what a 'silk hat' was. It is about 30 to 50 silkworm cocoons stretched over a wire frame to dry. Then...we buy it....and peel off one layer at a time. Then you can knit with it as it is..or dye it, or spin it. It is amazing!!! If you have time to kill...look it up on youtube. I'd give a link but its so late, I don't have time. I am totally smitten with this new 'find'. Pictured is my pink silkworm 'hat' or cap..and in my lap is the results of separating a layer of cocoon and drafting it out into a long silky gorgeous strand. ~~~I will be off line for a few days. take care....

At first I thought maybe a cat had ripped the stuffing out of your couch;) What a beautiful sight knowing it is your purchase of wool. I'm trying to play catch up with blog friends. Been busy working in the yard .. and tending to a sick (with a mild cold) Nathan .. home from school this week .. then my little grandson takes up some of my time .. he's such a sweet little boy I don't mind watching him a few days a week. It's good to reconnect with you:)
I would love to just smell that fleece! When I did have a wheel and tried (not very good at it) I had a fleece from a farming friend who had Jacob sheep - mine came with a label with the sheeps' name - it was
"Bramble" - isn't that sweet?

my mom would be in her glory at your place! i remember our living room looking like this (back in the 70's), when mom would make yarn ... i'm so glad you are enjoying your time - it is certainly well spent!!!! :o)
