The bullion roses are beginning to make sense to me. The large needle and crochet thread are tough to work with though. My eyes are feeling strained so thought I'd take a break. I've got the idea now, so I guess just keep practising. I need to get over to town, Mom has some things she wants to donate to the Garden Club. The trouble is, finding them open! Posted by Picasa

i have done needlepoint, but my mom and sisters do it SO much better - i admire the patience it takes ...

Oh, for some free time to pick up embroidery again. It's been a long time since I've had a needle in my hand other than for attaching a loose button!

Your bullions are looking just fine Maggie Ann - and you are right, it just takes practice and patience (not necessarily in that order!) I still have trouble with French Knots sometimes, but I have found the best way to do them is by using a hoop to hold the material nice and taut. That way it is easier to hold the thread tight and poke the needle in at the same time. It should work for doing bullions as well.
