Whatsoever things are lovely....

It is very overcast here,  with a sure promise of heavy thunderstorms to come soon!  We have battened our hatches....so to speak.  I sit here surrounded by hundreds of good books, while my cello leans back in its case and surely wonders when I shall lovingly hold it close to my heart and play something so that it can sing and not be silent. It's up to me....sing or be silent.  What thoughts to think on.

So often I am frustrated by all the 'things' I have 'to do' or wish to do, and forget  how blessed I am.  We had so little growing up, and now.....too much is the norm it seems to me.  This morning I am taking a  moment to say,  Thank you to the Lord, from whom all blessings flow.

Though my small library/music/pc room is a bit crowded...still, here it is.  Joy often comes in retrospect....covered with thankfulness.  I will choose this morning to be thankful and encourage myself to discard the old things...such as recipes I'm forever clipping and sticking in here to be forgotten.  As I grow older I see in myself....as I have before,  too much importance placed on 'things' and some of the things are fairly valueless.  (Is this the backlash of the avid garage sale patron?lol)

Then again, variety is the spice of life, tis said.  Balance surely must be 'key'.  What do you think?  Equality on the scales of  collecting?  I know its been said....if you bring home 3 items...3 other items must be carried out for donation.  Makes sense, but maybe I'm like the monkey with his hand in a narrow-mouthed jar full of cookies.   He/she reaches in grabs a handful of cookies and then cannot get his/her hand out of the jar, because he will not let go.  Hmmmm.  Let go.

By the way,  I do like my apps  =) ....and I came across one called...'Buttons & Scissors' that I like very much.  You connect the buttons of like color with your finger and scissors follow you ....deleting them...on and on.  It is pretty challenging,  so much so that after reaching the #30th game...I weakened and bought the answer packet for 2.99.  I've only needed to use the answer feature once. Now I'm on #41.  It is on the itunes store and free,  I think.  Have fun!

I Chronicles 4:10  'And Jabez called on the God of  Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me!   And God granted him that which he requested.'

Sweet collage! I'm afraid I've collected a bit much over the years and now am trying, little by little, to go through and downsize. It's really difficult. Thanks for stopping in at Cranberry Morning today for my fences and countryside post. :-)

Letting go is a very hard thing for me. When Jack and I moved from Missouri to Arkansas, I was forced to deal with the issue of letting go. We had far to many items to do otherwise. It took a bit but I let go of some furniture I loved and things packed away. soon it felt good to let it all go and lighten the load. I learned I do not have to keep everything ever given me, I can share it with others and the memory of the gift will always be in my heart.

Such a nice comment you left on my rosie tablescape! Thanks so much! I have a lifetime full of collections and still enjoy finding lovely things. Fortunately I am in a business where I can enjoy things for awhile and then pass some things on. I'm not so fixed on the actual number of things in and out, but I am really enjoying living with less these days.

Some wise words and shared thoughts this morning. I know I've gotten a bit behind...sorry. But don't you ever close down your blog! I would miss you too much!

I am a book hoarder. I can't live without my books. I'd never get a kindle, because you just can't decorate a room with a kindle, or feel the warm soft binding in your hands, or turn the pages of written words. Nor could I scan the shelves of a kindle and see all the books I have read in a long glance, and all the ones I intend to read, in another. Nope, real books mean far too much to me! I love what my husband calls "breakables" too...fine dishes and things, mostly blue & white, some fiesta, odds and ends of other things. I like to think I have a teapot collection, but I only have eight, and three of those are very small. I suppose that is a real collection....I have vowed not to ever buy another one, because I don't have room to store them, and there are other things I need more.

You play the cello! How lovely! I have always wanted to learn to play the strummed dulcimer! Our daughter played viola for three years in school.

So many blessings to be thankful for, and yet in our flesh we are always wanting something else. :-) We're silly, but we can't help it. It's just being human (and in the case of books and breakables, just being a girly girl. :-) ) But God I think understands. God bless you today dear Maggie Ann!
