From the Past....

Isn't this sweet?!! Please click on the link... The lady on the left is Mildred Wirt Benson. She was one of the writers of the Nancy Drew Series plus she wrote and published scads of children's books. Like the Penny Parker series, some of the 'Honey Bunch' series. Carolyn Keene series. I could go On and on. We were sitting here browsing the 'net' and came across this picture. I just had to share it with you. Hope you find it as sweet as we do.

Came across this also..On May 29, 2002, before a sudden illness prompted an emergency visit to the hospital, Benson spent the final day of her life as she had so many others: finishing up an assignment in the newsroom. In her obituary published the next day, Toledo Blade publisher and editor-in-chief John Robinson Block offered the following tribute:

"Millie Benson was one of the greatest women writers and journalists of the 20th century. She was gutsy and daring, a living embodiment of her Nancy Drew heroine. She influenced generations of Blade reporters. I will never forget her." [6]

So there is the little lady who wrote all those books I read when I was young. One of the first series I read as a small child was Honey Bunch, followed by the Bobbsey Twins and then on to Nancy Drew, Cherry Ames, some Hardy boys, and the Sue Barton nurse series. :-) This was really interesting, thanks!

Sweet post. Thank you for your kind words on my blog post. I'm very grateful for your encouragement as I think I'm not very good at writing and getting my thoughts across, but actually you echoed exactly what my mum had said to me the day before.

Thank you sweetie.

I loved Nancy Drew and knew the stories were written by a various number of "Carolyn Keene's"...some even male writers I read. So, Knitting Kat, I accidently found your blog and think I'll become a regular reader. You may want to check out my blog about a trip this past September down the Laura Ingalls Wilder Historic Highway.
