Charming Beatrix Potter watercolor...

This clipping is from the newspaper (Reuters) a while back. While tidying up I came across it again and taped it to the inside of the 'Peter Rabbit' book (I'll put the book cover in my sidebar). First of all I never heard of 'The Rabbits's Christmas Party' did you? It looks adorable, 'the rabbits leaving the party by candlelight'. This was sold to a private British collector for the grand sum of $578,700. There must have been stiff competition the day this was auctioned off. How glad I am, (yes, the Pollyanna type of glad...grin) that the working class, ahh, me, have copies of Miss Potter's works to enjoy and do I ever.

I don't want my blog to become political but must say I was greatly moved by John McCain's speech last night. How many Americans would say no thank you to being offered an end to torture? You have to love this man for his courage and commitment. When I think of Obama sitting under the preaching? for years of his mentor and Pastor....I see red flags waving danger.

I only found out recently that my Aunt (my father's brother's wife) was a close friend of Beatrix Potter. Apparently they grew up together, went to school together, and stayed in touch even after my Aunt married my Uncle and came to live in Australia. My cousin has all her books, autographed to his mum. I've never seen them, didn't even know they existed until my brother told me!
I love the new look of your blog MaggieAnn - very pretty indeed. Mine are so boring - I never change the original templates, because I don't know how to!

While I love Peter Rabbit ... it's some of the lines from Mrs. Tittlemouse that play over and over in my mind almost daily :) Must be a kinship between homemakers wanting a tidy house perhaps ;) ... I agree with your political take ... it's OK ... to take a stand in a public forum at this pivotal time in our Nation's history ... let's get the word out!

I was very impressed with McCain's speech. Not so much HOW he said it, but WHAT he said. Being a big politics follower, I was surprised I did not know those details of his past life. I appreciated his humility and self-assessment as a cocky arrogant young man who learned he wasn't "all that."

Well you know which way I'm voting. And which way I'm praying!!
