I love these Victorian Christmas cards...I like the modesty and femininity in dress too of that time in history. Plus all the special skill and workmanship in wood that was a trademark of many tradesman. And then the wonderful Calligraphy type script they used. As if every little title was extra important. The needlework that was art in threads, and turned into treasures to be handed down to grandchildren grown up. The loyalty to marriage vows. The reverance of God in many hearts and homes. How families were often large and fun loving. The glassware and dishs that were ornate or quaint. The toys...made of wood and tin and wax. Things that are treasured even now, adorning the shelves of antique stores, and now and again, carried home to be part of our own collection of special things. Hand embroidered pillow cases and dish towels, done in redwork with fat cherries and bluebirds for happiness. Christmas trees with garlands made of paper chains and popcorn. Christmas is more than expensive gifts, it is the simple things that set us free. "Tis a gift to be simple... tis a gift to be free, Tis a gift to come down where you want to be, and when you find yourself in a place just right, twill be in the valley of love and delight" This may not be quoted just right, but the idea is there. I thought just yesterday, that every hour I spend watching tv, is an hour of my life...gone! Oh to live each hour, as happily as can be. Putting swirls of calligraphy on my letters, and embroidering my own fat cherries and bluebirds. Counting every hour as some special gift from God to be used for his glory and enjoyed in good ways. His will is ever within our reach, if we but humble our hearts before him and let him reign and rule within us. Was there ever a more loving Father than our Creator? "If Christ lives in us, controlling our personalities, we will leave glorious marks on the lives we touch. Not because of our heavenly characters, but because of His". Eugenia
Price.
"Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless his holy name." Psalm 103

Maggie Ann... I loved your post and your picture, too (but then, I always love what I find over here!). Thanks for your comment at my blog.... And as for still having time to Christmas shop online, I'd say go for it! We still have over two weeks and in December, two weeks is about my limit for ordering things. And yet, even in December I've received things in less time, so who knows? I love Christmas shopping online in peace! :) Thanks again for your special post here... Blessings, Debra
