I wish the photo was nearer the top of this post but it is one my son took out of the plane window on a trip home. He wouldn't be pleased that I chose this one with all the scratchs on the plane window. This is a bit like life, we must look beyond the scratches and trials and find rest in our sovergn God, who is unfailingly 'there'. In my Bible reading, I am in the book of Exodus. Once in a while, I jot down thoughts I have while reading God's word, and thought I'd share them today. The passage I read was from Exodus 13:22,23. " And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night; verse 22; He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people". As I read this, I jotted down my feelings. How wonderful that the everyone could see God's presence! My thoughts were...oh please Lord, always let me see your presence in my life, let me hear you. I need the security of your presence with me in this life. Pull back on the reigns of my heart, guide me, remind me you are soveign. Keep me, please keep me focused on you. The thought came to me this morning....I do have the security of God's light by day and by night. Not in a cloud by day and fire by night, but I have in my hands God's word, the Bible...by day and by night. That is a blessed security that covers all my heart's needs. As Moses lifted his hand to part the Red Sea as his God commanded him too, I think he was not feeling powerful but humble....humbled in his heart at God's vast power and mighty, no, wondrous provision for his beloved Israel. He cares just as much for each of us who repent and confess Christ as Saviour. The book of Hebrews has this passage..."While it is said, Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. For some, when they had heard, did provoke; howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses. But with whom was he (God) grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness? And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief." Sharing my devotional thoughts this morning and hoping they strike a chord of faith in your heart as they have in mine. In my hands I hold the promises and warnings of my God whom I love.
