This is how I have spent the morning and a good part of the afternoon....Stitching! My friend and I have challenged...perhaps the word encouraged would be a better fit at this point, each other to complete three cross stitch samplers that are sooo pretty. She is way ahead of me and I decided I had better get down to business and get stitching in ernest. After all, I told myself....I have scads of free time and just need to buckle down. I am enjoying doing this (finally)...its hard on the eyes, but the sun was shining in the living room window so brilliantly that I knew it was a good chance to stitch. The floss colors are really 'art' colors. Gingersnap and Maple Syrup....Dried Thyme...aren't the names wonderful? And the colors harmonize beautifully....A special thankyou to each of you who left me a comment about my essay on 'Blogging'. Do you know, I woke up the next morning after posting that the evening before...thinking, I'd better check that and perhaps delete it. But..as you know *smile*, I did leave it be. I would absolutely love to come around visiting, but must practise first. There is a marked improvement in my Bach pieces and that is rewarding to say the least. Hope to visit everyone later tonight. Hope you are having a very good day! Do you know this hymn? 'How Firm a Foundation' 2nd verse....."Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed, for I am thy God, and will still give thee aid; I'll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand, Upheld by My gracious, omnipotent hand." How I love this truth of this and the melody too...God feeds his lambs, does he not! St.John 10: 25-28. Jesus answered them, I told you and ye believed not....verse27...My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me; and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand". If you had a relationship with God like this, wouldn't you want to tell others about him too? If you are one of his sheep, lets rejoice together, we are safe evermore! Posted by Picasa

looks beautiful Maggie. I wish I enjoyed doing things like that. Mother never sat down that she didn't have a needle in her hand. I'd rather be up doing something else. Maybe one day I will sit down and finish some things she started.

It looks like it will be lovely Miss Maggie..thank you for all your kind word over at my place..*VBS*
What I am reading..well, having successfully gotten Miss Quinn home again, I turned to reading tidbits of A Foxfire Christmas..Appalachian Memories and Traditions. It is one of the student based interview efforts of Eliot Wigginton. I've had it for several years, it was published in 1989. I love reading of the old fashion traditions of the mountain people. Life was so much simpler then, and so many found so much joy in family, music and prayer. Toys were simple things, and food, altho not abundant was made and shared with love. I pick it up and read an entry here and there.

Last night I began reading "A Gathering of Days" A New England Girl's Journal, 1830-32. by Joan W. Blos. It won the Newberry Prize for children literature. It's so fascinating to read as this young girl records her thought and impressions of each day...the helping of a runaway slave, the coming to terms with her father remarrying after her mother has died.
My favorite quote(which is part of the title) is "This year, more than any other has been a lengthly gathering of days, wherein we lived, we loved, were moved and lerned how to accept."
Again, it's a slightly older book, being published in 1979.

What are you reading..? *VBS*

Good Evening:

I just got done with my Young Maiden's Literary Society meeting at my home and we all recited "my sheep here my voice and I know them"...We are reading a book in the Lamplighter series called "A Peep Behind the Scenes" (www.ymls.blogspot.com) How ironic it is your posting tonight :) yes, I do know the Good Shepherd personally and it is wonderful. I feel so safe and secure.

I noticed a comment you left me that you may be missing family around these holidays.. I send my comfort and prayers. My family has been strained occassionally in the past and it was so nice to get together on Thanksgiving. I do remember that I cannot take them for granted for we never know when we may see them again... My mother is a 4 year breast cancer survivor. each day is a gift for her and for each of us really...
Surely, goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life

I am sooooo envious! I love to stitch too but I use my time other places and not always wisely. Yes, love those names.

"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me; and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand". If you had a relationship with God like this, wouldn't you want to tell others about him too? If you are one of his sheep, lets rejoice together, we are safe evermore!"

"...a relationship with God." It's what naturally follows once we are filled with His Spirit, who emparts His love so that we may love Him. We can do nothing except through Him, not even love Him. We can't love others truly either until He enables us to reach past the human conditional form of love.

Good Word!!
