This is one of my Mother's hankies. I think her Mother crocheted this. It's just the sort of thing my Grandma turned out time and again. Its lovely workmanship, I'm glad to have it. Every birthday for the grandchildren, we would get a birthday card and a hankie Grandma had edged. Sometimes she sewed lace on to it and then just did a chain stitch around that in a pretty color. One of my favorites was a white handkerchief sprinkled with small pink flowers and had a pink crocheted edging. This has been a tiring day but I got our bedroom back in order. I always take out the extra books, bedding and music stands etc. from the sitting room and stuff it into our bedroom while our 'company' is here. So, I've gotten that back to cozy, which is a favorite description of my life and one I aim for often. I saw a picture of a bed pillow that had a wonderful redwork design embroidered on it today. That fits right in with 'cozy' and even....elegant. I'm trying to look forward and not back too much. I loved your comments and loving support. It means alot to me. And.....it helps. Hugs to you too. Posted by Picasa

Don't you find strength in handling things your mom and your grandmothers sewed on? I'm always baffled at the time they had to do those things...and here we are with all of these "labor-saving" devices. I have to wonder.

Take care and hope you sleep good and peacefully. A cozy and tidy bedroom helps, I think.

It's so good to see you smiling at me from the comments over at my blog. Please know you have been missed.
The hankerchief is so lovely. I have a few that were gifts also, but nothing home made like that.
Isn't it hard to imagine in 2005, that when I graduated high school in 1958 a "typical" gift for a girl(such as me) was a card with a hanky in it. I still have several that I received that May, 1958.

The little things of life will pull you back into the daily-ness of living beyond the pain of the past week. Be well and take care. *VBS* Finn

Melissa, yes, it is a comfort to handle things that my Mom and Grandmother made. I never really thought of it like that but its true. It reminds me of the time I was at Grandma's for supper and dessert was homemade applesauce and she heated it and dropped in 'red hot heart candies'. Something so common yet it was 'way' special at the time. I think I know how my Gram got needlework done, they work in spurts, cleaning like crazy and then ignoring it for awhile to pursue other things. My Grandmother always had the most wonderful flower beds outside too. And, yes, oh how calming a cozy and tidy bedroom and house is. Good to remember, its worth the extra effort~~~~~~~~~~~~Thankyou Peggy for the encouragement, its true that time distances alot of the pain of loss. I am able to watch the video clips of Mom that I took with my digi and it is a comfort to me. It helps me to look back now and see how frail she was and that the quality of life she had was not anything I would want her to have. It was time, God's time. 'Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints'.Psalm 116:15~~~~~~~~~~Finn, thanks for missing me over at your blog. I enjoyed your comments about graduation gifts. When I graduated from high school I was working part time at a bakery/restaurant and I thought of the owners as very rich. My graduation from my boss was a half slip and I was soooo disappointed. I wondor what I was expecting?? = ). Do you think hankies will ever make a big comeback? Thanks everyone for all the loving wishs and prayers. I need them!
